We had been practicing the song with my friends for months. We were part of a school band, and we played different instruments. Since winter had started early, the boiler was in full gear. The filters would help promote indoor air quality at the school. When I passed the wireless thermostat near the principal’s office, I caught the reading, which showed 75. Mum liked to set it at 75, while Dad preferred it a little lower, like 70 on the electric heat pump. My father had a heating business, so I understood the HVAC suppliers’ terminology during lunch. I also knew about all the energy-saving tips on the pamphlet and also the HVAC products for sale being showcased. The show was later that night, and the parents would be coming, including the entire school. We filled the air with rhythmic sounds from our musical instruments. Just as we were about to finish, the heat pump installation bellowed a sound that went with our number.
