She serviced the chimney for any excess debris

Since Max was a kid, he has always enjoyed wood burning fireplaces. Though they didn’t have one inside their home, Max admired them when he saw them inside other people’s homes. So, he knew from that age that he wanted to have a fireplace when he became an adult. Well, that idea abruptly went away when Max realized how much work went into maintaining a wood burning fireplace. He discovered this as a teen when they went on a trip in the mountains. And of course, they rented a dwelling that came with a wood burning fireplace. He was so gleeful about this as it was the first time that Max would get an option to sit in front of an actual fireplace. He had it all planned out, he wanted to have overheated cocoa, eat cooking and sit with a blanket while he watched the flames flicker. As pleasant as that sounded in his head, he didn’t think about all the prep work that was needed to start a fire. Max was genuinely surprised that his Mom knew what to do as they didn’t have a fireplace in their home. Prior to starting the fire, she serviced the chimney for any excess debris, cleaned out the fireplace, serviced the glass cover, and made sure that the grate was in superb condition. All the prep work that she did took about 35 minutes, and he is glad that he was able to see that process because it made him rethink getting a wood burning fireplace. Instead, Max has settled for an electric version that he just plugs into a wall and presses a button to turn it on.
